SINGAPORE: The Singapore economy grew strongly in the first quarter, registering a 4.3 per cent growth year-on-year – up from 3.6 per cent in the fourth quarter of last year, according to advance estimates released by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI).
On a quarter-on-quarter seasonally adjusted annualised basis, the economy expanded by 1.4 per cent, easing from the 2.1 per cent growth in the fourth quarter, the ministry said in a press release on Friday (Apr 13).
The manufacturing sector remained the brightest spot in the economy with an expansion of 10.1 per cent on a year-on-year basis, a surge from the 4.8 per cent growth in the previous quarter.
